Posting from something different this week, an unfinished fantasy novel from the “Novels I’m Ignoring” file. (Yes, I do actually have a folder with that that title.)
It doesn’t actually have a name yet – the working title is Disturbed Magic but I’m pretty sure that will change eventually.
Oh, and it’s a rough draft, so all the usual warnings apply, and then some.
Kel moved easily through the crowded streets of Antion, half-whistling. It was a perfect day, or almost perfect; there was a merchant caravan in town and the rumors were that they were hiring warriors for guards for the next stage of their journey. Being hired – that would make the difference between perfect and almost perfect.
Meanwhile, the bright colors and exotic scents from the traders’ hastily assembled booths and tents assaulted the senses and spoke of promises of adventure in far-away lands, maybe even lands where what Kel did was not illegal. Just for a moment Kel reveled in the feelings of hope, then pushed them down. First things first – being hired as a guard was the first thing to hope for: all the rest would be a bonus.
Novel Notes 
Nice! For a small snippet, the description made me feel like I was in Antion too.
Certainly leaves me curious to read more.

I’m intrigued from the start – especially wanting to know what he does that’s illegal here but not elsewhere. Nice characterization in such a short snippet.
