Sunday Snippet, January 3, 2021

Yes, I’m back for Snippet Sunday, too! Looks like it’s been even longer than it was for Rainbow Snippets. Hopefully I’ll be back on track for good now.

I’m posting from my current writing WiP, Song and Shadow, a prequel to Song and Sword. It’s a rough draft and I don’t have an actual outline (maybe I’ll make one of those this week) so it’s going to be a fun ride.

Pashevel leaned back in his chair, watching the crowd in the tavern’s common room as he sipped his ale; it was dark and slightly bitter, not unlike the atmosphere in the tavern this evening. Pashevel had been staying at the Red Drum Tavern for the past fortnight, sometimes entertaining, sometimes just relaxing, using it as a base as he explored the Human capital city, and this was the first time he had sensed this sort of tension and reserve in the room.

“Quiet in here tonight,” he remarked as the serving girl brought him another drink.

“Always is when they’re here,” she replied, nodding her head toward a group of men in uniform.

Oh yes. When men in uniform are present, general populations tend to chill. Somethings never change.

  2. Nice job of setting the atmosphere! :-)
Good to read you again. Happy New Year!

  3. Happy to see you back, always enjoy your writing! I like the promise in this snippet…of events to come!

  4. Definitely drew me in. I want to know who the uniformed folks are and what they stand for.
