Yes! I’m back to posting snippets! It’s been a few months, hasn’t it? (My last post was the end of August, I believe.)
Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!). Check out all the other awesome snippets by clicking on the picture above.
Anyhow, I’m here with snippets from Onyx Sun, a science fiction novel. I’m trying to get it ready for a second round of beta readers (just have a section in the middle to sort out) and my goal is to release it sometime this year.
“We’ve reached an agreement on the contract.”
“When are you coming home?”
“Station morning, as soon as the freighters have set down.”
“When you get back I have another assignment for you. Oh, and your grandmother died yesterday.”
“Pendelia Four is now visible on the monitor.”
The automated voice snapped Taliya Swann back to the present long enough for her to silence it and turn off the view screen. She had neither the need nor the desire to see an image of the planet; not even the thought of being reunited with Luzita could kindle any enthusiasm for her return to her home world.
For the first time since she had received her license she turned control of the company ship over to the port’s computers. The ship had been on autopilot for the entire trip from the Roseeba Sector, and so had she.

Whoa, harsh way to break the news about grandma!
Yikes to how grandma’s death is presented (and welcome back)
