Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).  Check out all the other awesome snippets by clicking on the picture above.

More from Onyx Sun. The good news is that I finally finished entering the changes I made on paper. The bad news is that there are still giant loose ends to tie up. But I’m getting there. Slowly.

Skipping ahead a bit. Josul has convinced Taliya that she needs someone to help her with the ship and she has been talked into buying a slave (but only so she can free him or her). Josul picked out three likely candidates and she is interviewing the third, having already rejected the other two.

Ayess acknowledged her presence with a deferential nod as she sat down across the table. “Mistress.” The voice was soft and sibilant, and Taliya wasn’t certain if it was out of deference or if this was their normal tone.

“It’s Taliya,” she said, and Ayess looked up at her, startled and uncertain. “My name is Taliya, not Mistress.” She smiled, placing the muting device on the table and taking a moment to study the person before her. Ayess was covered in dark grey scales, and large black eyes glistened in a reptilian head. Powerful arms terminated in short, clawed fingers, and the chest was wide, narrowing toward the hips.

“I’m sorry, Ayess, but I’m not familiar with your race.”

“I am an Araxian.”

Taliya frowned, trying to remember if she had ever heard of the race, and making a mental note to research them later.

  2. That’s an interesting meeting of these two.

  3. Love this meeting. Please, let that soft tone be her normal voice, love me some softly-spoken reptilian aliens.
