So Far, So Good… Sort Of

Admittedly, it’s only the third day of the year and I’ve been off work all three days, but so far I’ve kept up with the 100 words a day goal. I start back to work on Wednesday (theoretically) so we shall see how it goes after that.

I’ve been working on the dragon and rider novel that doesn’t have a title, but I’m running into a problem…

Yes, 300ish words in, I’m running into a problem.

It was originally supposed to be told entirely from the dragon’s point of view, but what I’m writing now… Well, it could be from his point of view, but I’m kind of thinking that I might have an entirely different novel sprouting out of the middle of this story.

(Yes, I have an outline. Yes, it’s already become totally irrelevant.)

So now I’m not sure if I should go with this current bit being an entirely different story and go back to my original outline, or if I should just have some scenes be from the human’s point of view. Right now the dragon is sort of eavesdropping on a conversation, but it still kind of feels like this is either a separate story or… I don’t know. It just feels… off… somehow.

But it’s only the first draft. The “down draft,” as in “get it down.” Next will be the “up draft” as in “fix it up.” The problem is that the more of a mess I make in this draft the less willing I am to fix it up.

Maybe I’ll sleep on it tonight, work on something else for a few days, and see what happens.
