Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).  Check out all the other awesome snippets by clicking on the picture above.

Taliya has bought a used space ship, had a few (mis)adventures with it, and has gone to look up an old friend from school for help. This picks up from last week’s snippet, in which Taliya filled Josul in on what’s been happening since she bought the ship, and now they’re discussing getting her ship — and her — a new identity.

Taliya shook her head, suddenly wishing she was back home, that none of this had ever happened. But back home she would still be living under her mother’s thumb; at least now she was free – although freedom didn’t seem to be all that it was cracked up to be.

Freedom. She smiled softly as she remembered the conversation with her father.

“Freedom,” she said. “Freedom Enterprises.”

“I think I liked Cygnet Shipping better.”

“So did I, but since we have to ditch it… Freedom is what this is was all about – freedom from my mother and from what she thinks I’m supposed to do – from what she and her friends expect from me.”

“Like you ever cared about that,” he snorted.

“True. But now I don’t even have to pretend anymore. And the name will remind me why I’m doing this. So that I have the freedom to run a business – and eventually the House – the way I think it should be run.”
