Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!). Check out all the other awesome snippets by clicking on the picture above.
Taliya has bought a used space ship, had a few (mis)adventures with it, and has gone to look up an old friend from school for help. This picks up from last week’s snippet, in which Taliya filled Josul in on what’s been happening since she bought the ship, and now they’re discussing getting her ship — and her — a new identity.
She shrugged. “I never thought it would happen either.” She stared down at the table top, idly drawing on it with the rings of condensation from their drinks.
He reached across the table and gave her hand a squeeze. “It’s going to be all right, Tal.”
“I shouldn’t have come here, shouldn’t have gotten you involved.”
Josul’s laughter cut her off. “This is going to be fun and don’t even try to pretend that you didn’t know I’d say that.” He shook his head, sobering. “And no one out here will even blink at the changes. How do you think this backwater colony got so wealthy and doesn’t have to worry about the pirates? We have no law enforcement here – the pirates are the law enforcement and this colony is absolutely neutral and protected.”
“Even from each other?”
“Especially from each other. Now, let’s get down to business. We need to rename your ship and your business and then I can get your new professional identity set up. Any suggestions?”
Sounds like Josul has it under control! ❤️
Josul seems like a great friend and a great contact. (heart)
Josul seems to have a plan for everything. He’s a good friend.
I love how confident Josul is in the colony and its protection.
