Rainbow Snippet for 4-3-2021

Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).  Check out all the other awesome snippets by clicking on the picture above.

Taliya has bought a used space ship, had a few (mis)adventures with it, and has gone to look up an old friend from school for help. This picks up from last week’s snippet, in which Taliya filled Josul in on what’s been happening since she bought the ship, and now they’re discussing getting her ship — and her — a new identity.

Josul laughed. “We’ll find you a better name. Speaking of names…”

“No. I’m not changing mine. Not legally and not illegally.”

“Tal…”

“I can’t, Josul. It would be too complicated – all my money is tied up in this name, and it’s all back on Pendelia Four.”

“And you’re not currently inclined to return to that planet to sort things out?”

“I’m not even currently inclined to return to that system to sort things out.”

Josul laughed. “I’d say we could do it from here but if they are flagging you there’s too much risk of transmissions being intercepted.” He frowned. “I wish I knew what they thought you were carrying.”

“So do I.”

“I’ll bet.” He shook his head. “Of all the people I know that I would have suspected of getting caught up in something like this, Tal, you are at the bottom of the list. Hell, you aren’t even on the list.”

  1. Poor Tal. That’s quite the mysterious pickle she needs to sort out. ❤️

  2. Cara Hartley

Sometimes we surprise ourselves as well as others and not always in ways that we can see as positive. I like the rapport between these characters.

  3. Sweet moment amidst all the banter…

  4. I, too, would like to know what they think Tal has.

  5. Love the dialogue between these two.
