Still posting from Book Two of The Other Mages trilogy this month, mostly because I’m too lazy to pick something different. (This is also why the same CD stays in my car’s player for months on end.)

Character introduction:
Trebor is an Empath.
D’Laron is his best friend and a Healer.
(They are both university professors as well as Mages.)
Katheri is a student at the university and has Mage potential.

A few vocabulary words for now and for future reference.
Qestora is a female apprentice
Qestoro is a male apprentice
Qestori is the plural and can refer to males, females, or both.
Mentors/trainers are:
Saj (singular, male or female)
Sajo (male)
Saja (female)
Sajen (plural, male or female)

“She knows.”

“Knows?”

“She knows about Power. She senses yours. She sensed mine. It both draws her and frightens her. She wants to approach you, but she’s afraid.”

“Afraid of what?”

Trebor shook his head, staring into his brandy. “I don’t know. At least, I’m not certain. But I think it has to do with your Power.” He looked up and met D’Laron’s gaze. “She’s been wounded, D’Laron. And I think it has to do with Power. She’s hurt, and frightened – terrified – and very vulnerable.”

They were quiet for a long moment, Trebor letting his friend sort through what he’d just told him.

“I wonder if Xooshemi* would have any record of her? That might give us an idea of what we’re working with.”

“She might,” Trebor replied slowly. “I know the Archivists do keep records of Saj/Qestori pairings.”

D’Laron nodded. “I’ll talk to her.”

*This name is going to change. She’s a member of the Mage Guild, and was D’Laron’s Saja.
