My Camp NaNoWriMo project this month is yet another attempt to get a handle on Book Two of The Other Mages trilogy. (Yes, I know I’ve tried to finish this in other Camp sessions, but this time I’ve had an “ah-ha!” moment on how to fix a plot issue so I actually have hope…
Character introduction:
Trebor is an Empath. D’Laron is his best friend and a Healer.
This follows from last week.
“Potential?” D’Laron was startled. “I’ve never felt it from her.”
“It’s there,” Trebor said. “Along with a lot of other things.”
D’Laron raised an eyebrow. “Other things?”
Trebor sighed. “I …” He closed his eyes and when he opened them again there was a dark haunted look in them.
D’Laron took a deep breath, somehow suddenly not wanting to hear the “other things.”
“She’s… wounded.”
“Like you were,” D’Laron said softly.
Trebor nodded, swallowing hard. “I want to meet her.”
D’Laron hesitated. “Are you sure that’s a good idea?”
“No.” Trebor flashed him a grin. “But I think I need to.”
D’Laron studied him for a long moment, knowing that Trebor’s grin hid a long history of hurts and fears. At last he nodded slowly. “She’s in my afternoon class. Feel free to sit in.”
Clearly the wound is important, and thus you’ve got me wondering what it is.
I enjoy the flow of this and all the questions the narrative raises. Skillfully done, great snippet!
I like the hints of old scars.
I’m curious to know about their wounds being so similar that he must meet this girl.
