My Camp NaNoWriMo project this month is yet another attempt to get a handle on Book Two of The Other Mages trilogy. (Yes, I know I’ve tried to finish this in other Camp sessions, but this time I’ve had an “ah-ha!” moment on how to fix a plot issue so I actually have hope…
Character introduction:
Trebor is an Empath. D’Laron is his best friend and a Healer. Luthen is… Well, an Elder in their tradition, and a mentor, especially to Trebor. Katheri is also an Empath, and Trebor and D’Laron are her Sajen – her trainers/mentors.
This follows from last week.
“Katheri!” Luthen lifted her in his arms and swung her in a circle. “Are you keeping these two in line?”
“I try,” she said. “D’Laron is easy, but Trebor…”
Luthen laughed. “I should have warned you about him.” He let her go and embraced Trebor. “It is good to see you again.”
“And you as well. I’ve been looking forward to it ever since Rajde brought me your note. How is everyone?”
“They are well, and send greetings. And gifts, but we’ll get to that later. For now, I need you to step outside for a moment.” He nodded toward the kitchen door and Trebor frowned.
“I’m being kicked out of my own home?” he asked.
“Go on,” Luthen said. “It’s just for a few minutes.”
A quick scan of Luthen’s emotions reinforced the impression of barely controlled excitement and Trebor grabbed his cloak and wrapped it over his shoulders before stepping out into the frigid winter night.
Drawing in a deep breath of the crisp air, he took a few steps away from the house and looked up at the sky just as snow started to fall, and suddenly found himself tackled to the ground.
