My Camp NaNoWriMo project this month is yet another attempt to get a handle on Book Two of The Other Mages trilogy. (Yes, I know I’ve tried to finish this in other Camp sessions, but this time I’ve had an “ah-ha!” moment on how to fix a plot issue so I actually have hope…

Character introduction:
Trebor is an Empath. D’Laron is his best friend and a Healer.

“All right, out with it.”

“Nice to see you too, Trebor. How was your day? Mine? Oh, about normal.” He looked up and smiled as Trebor waved off the sarcasm. “Out with what?”

“With whatever it is that’s been on your mind lately.” Trebor closed the door and sat down, his blue eyes darkening as he grew serious. “Something’s been gnawing at you. I can’t help if you won’t let me.”

D’Laron smiled and sighed, leaning back in his chair. He could feel Trebor’s concern and he let it wash over him for a moment. “It’s not anything serious,” he assured him. “Here.” He sorted through the papers on his desk and pulled out an essay. “Her name is Katheri, and she’s in my Introduction to Philosophy class. There’s something about her…”

Trebor took the paper and read it. “Quite insightful for a first year student,” he said. Then he frowned and shifted his focus, closing his eyes as he opened up…  He gave a low whistle and handed the paper back to D’Laron. “You didn’t tell me she had Potential.”

  1. Potential for what? That’s the obvious question, so I’ll ask it.

  2. Enjoyed the excerpt, very atmospheric and engaging to the reader…

  3. I’m curious to know what he means about potential. Intrigued to know more.

  4. Welcome back :-)
    Interesting snippet. Potential for what?
