Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).   Check out all the other awesome snippets by clicking on the picture above.

Picking up from last week’s snippet from a neglected WiP. The boys have been stranded on a deserted street in a winter storm, turned away by a church shelter because they’re gay.  They’ve been rescued by a woman across the street who has bustled them off to a shower.  This is unedited, so in the words of our fearless leader, “Squint.”

“I wonder why he sent us there? I mean, he must have known what he was like. He said it was his church, the one he goes to.”

Tommy looked at him and Alex winced at the fevered flush in his pale cheeks.

“He knew what kind of reception we’d get,” Tommy said. “He knew we’d get stranded out here in this weather with nowhere to go.”

“He sent us here to die?” Alex asked incredulously.

Tommy nodded and focused on removing the rest of his clothes. “I don’t have any other theory, but if you do I’d love to hear it.” He stood up and made his way into the shower room and Alex joined him a moment later.

“I believe you,” Alex said as hot water splashed onto the floor and steam enveloped his body. “I just don’t like thinking that someone would do that, would deliberately send us to someone who would turn us out to die.”

“I don’t either,” Tommy replied stepping under the spray. “That’s why I was hoping you’d have a better theory.”
