Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).   Check out all the other awesome snippets by clicking on the picture above.

Still posting from Book Five of the Academy of the Accord (fantasy) series that I have been (and will be) working on for forever.

I’m picking up from last week, where Draethlen asked Wellhym if he and Kordelm were lovers.

(For those just tuning in, Kordelm and Wellhym are warriors, captains at The Academy of the Accord, and they are lovers. Draethlen is a 10 year old cadet rescued from an orphanage where he was sexually abused by the headmaster.)

“There’s something else to consider, too,” Kordelm said, his voice unusually serious as he joined them and sat down next to Wellhym. “You’re young yet, Drae. Some know early on that they are different, and some don’t discover it until they are older.  You have been forced into a position where you had to do things you weren’t even ready to think about yet.”

Draethlen looked at him uncertainly, not sure what he was saying.

“In short, you are too young, and too… unaware… of what you really want.” Kordelm’s smile was warm and understanding. “It would be very, very wrong for us – for anyone – to take advantage of your confusion.”

Draethlen nodded slowly, turning their words over in his mind. “So, maybe I really don’t…  It’s all right that I didn’t like what he did?”

    Nicely done. Poor Drae!

  7. Such a hard thing to understand at that age. Bless the boy. I’m glad he’s got someone – two of them, actually – to talk to.
