Rainbow Snippet for 4-1-2017

Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).   Check out all the other awesome snippets by clicking on the picture above.

I’m still posting from Onyx Sun, a science fiction novel that is currently in revision. The revisions are turning out to be more complex than originally expected so the release date is, um, to be determined. (I’ve given up trying to predict one, but I have at least one more round of revisions after the current one, and my goal for Camp NaNoWriMo this month is to finish this round.)

Skipping a couple paragraphs from last week.  Taliya has asked that Luzita be delivered to her ship as she has a couple things she needs to take care of before the offices close.  I’m picking up with Luzita’s first meeting with Ayess.

(This part is still in revision so squint because I haven’t gotten to it yet.)

Luzita shrank back when the hatch opened.  The… creature… that stood in it was tall and covered with dark grey scales and tentacles and she had to look away.

“Get in there,” the slaver growled, shoving her forward.

She stumbled and would have fallen if the alien hadn’t caught her.  She jerked away from him, panicked, and he let her go, stepping between her and the slaver.  “That is not how one treats someone else’s property,” he snarled.  “Now get out of here before the Board is informed of your actions.”

The slaver gave the two of them a baleful glance and left, barely clearing the hatch before it closed.

Poor Luzita. At least now she should be in good hands.

Sounds like at least someone is looking out for Luzita for now.

  3. Oh, interesting! I was wondering what their first meeting would be like! Best of luck of finishing your round of revisions! We’ve got similar goals this Camp NaNoWriMo. Or should I call it NaNoRevMo? :)

  4. See, now, I like to think I don’t judge on first appearances, but scales and tentacles…think I’d probably have freaked a bit there, too. (Still chuckling at the ‘in good hands…and good tentacles?’ comment/reply :D)

Brave on her for not judging for appearances. So difficult for most of us
