Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).   Check out all the other awesome snippets by clicking on the picture above.

I’m still posting from Onyx Sun, a science fiction novel that is currently in revision. The revisions are turning out to be more complex than originally expected so the release date is, um, to be determined. (I’ve given up trying to predict one, but I have at least one more round of revisions after the current one.)

I’m skipping ahead a ways.  (This part is still in revision so squint because I haven’t gotten to it yet.)

A merchant fleet has arrived and Taliya is exploring the market area they have set up.

Kithani – the entire Kapuna Sector, actually – hardly seemed like a good place to bring things like Numali silk, but then, out here on the fringe, people were hungry for exotic goods, and had the money to spend on them.  There might be dangers out here, but there was also money to be made.

She stopped and stared at the silk, remembering her mother bragging about the deal she had gotten on it when she had sold Luzita, and her breath caught.  Maybe…

She shook her head. It wasn’t possible.  It just wasn’t possible for that same merchant caravan to be here, where she was.

And even if it was, Luzita had no doubt been sold months ago.

Still…

(Remember Luzita?  She is Taliya’s lover, sold into slavery by Maureena.)

  1. Heh, I have a feeling she just might be in luck! ;)

  2. Oh, wow! I was wondering what had happened to Luzita!

  3. Good luck with revisions! And yes, I focused on that part, because I’m in the middle of revising something too :-)

  4. Jana Denardo

Ugh, I hear you on revisions. I’m half ready to hit delete on the whole file. Good luck with yours. I’m glad to see we might be meeting Luzita soon!

  5. Ah, yes. I remember now. Grr. Still, who knows? LOL.

    Good luck with the revisions.
