Rainbow Snippet for 2-4-2017

Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).   Check out all the other awesome snippets by clicking on the picture above.

I’m still posting from Onyx Sun, a science fiction novel that is currently in revision. The revisions are turning out to be more complex than originally expected so the release date is, um, to be determined. (I’ve given up trying to predict one, but I have at least one more round of revisions which I’m hoping to finish this month.)

 

“You do not trust easily.  People have hurt you.”

The warmth and gentleness in his voice made her eyes fill with tears and she avoided looking at him as she replied, “Starting with my mother.”  She sighed and shook her head.  “You said that your people don’t have families?”

“Not in a sense that you would understand, with a mother and father.  When Denni called me an ‘it’ and said that Araxians do not have sexes he was semi-correct.  We do not have male and female.”

“Then, how…”  She stopped. She wanted to ask how they procreated but that seemed to be too personal and she flushed.

“We do not have males and females because we are all both.”
