Rainbow Snippet for 9-3-2016

Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).   Check out all the other awesome snippets by clicking on the picture above.

I’m still posting from Onyx Sun, a science fiction novel that is currently in revision. The revisions are turning out to be more complex than originally expected so the release date is, um, to be determined. (I’ve given up trying to predict one.)

I’m skipping ahead this week.  Taliya has taken care of some business and has spent time with her estranged father. (Not estranged by her choice or his.)  She has also taken possession of a space ship, the Vain Glory and has spent the night aboard it.  We’re picking up the next morning.

There may or may not be some creative punctuation involved in the following text.

“Taliya Swann?”

She turned at the sound of her name to find two large men approaching her.  There was something official about their demeanor and she felt a wave of anxiety that was immediately followed by a flash of anger: what had her mother done to her this time?

“Yes?”

“Could you come with us, please?”

She raised an eyebrow as a lifetime of training took over.  “Not until you tell me who you are and where you want me to go.”

  1. You tell em, Taliya! Love this story! 😀

I wonder who they are and what they want? I’m sure she won’t give in easily.

  3. I’m wondering why they are there and I love her reply.

  4. That sounds ominous but I love how she isn’t just giving in.
