I’m going to be posting from Onyx Sun, a science fiction novel that is currently in revision and which I’m hoping to publish later this month. (If it doesn’t make it to e-print by the end of June it will definitely be out in August.)
(Those of you who participate in Sunday Snippets may remember parts of this.)

Taliya shuddered as she stared at the mansion that loomed before her: maybe it was the news of her grandmother’s death, but the house now seemed overwhelmingly reminiscent of a mausoleum. Not even the thought of Luzita was able to brighten her homecoming, and wearily she forced herself to exit her HoverWing and approach the ornate doors.
They opened in response to her presence and she stepped into an empty foyer. The vaulted ceiling and unadorned white marble walls seemed to make her breath echo and already she felt stifled, suffocated. It was like this every time she returned from having been away, as if the part of her that was real couldn’t pass over the threshold, and the part of her that did pass through was little more than a construct, created by her mother – or maybe for her mother.
Novel Notes 
Now this grabs ones attention, i love the line about being a construct.
I think we all know that feeling in one way or another (construct). Nice work!
Hmmm… interesting, HoverWing and old homes…
I LOVE this. I love the idea that when you step across a threshold you leave part of yourself on the other side, and the last line was fantastic.
