Rainbow Snippet for 3-5-2016

Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).   Check out all the other awesome snippets by clicking on the picture above.

Continuing from Disturbed Magic (until or unless a better title comes along). Picking up from last week’s post, in which Tirza silenced the entire inn by announcing that Kel is a Sword Dancer.

“A – a what?”  Kel fought down a surge of near panic.

“A Sword Dancer.”

“No,” Kel said with a laugh.  “I don’t know about Arcannull, but there are no Sword Dancers in Saradend.  They were made illegal generations ago, and anyone who practiced the art was executed.”

Tirza nodded slowly, staring at the table, and after a long moment she sighed. “Maybe my family was right. Maybe I do live too much in a dream world where there is magic and other things that don’t really exist.”  She looked up again. “Kel?  Would… would you mind spending the night with me?”

There was a guffaw from a nearby table and the tavern resumed its normal conversations as Tirza flushed.

Hmm, what’s the answer going to be to her question?

  2. Dear Tirza,

  3. AM

Oh, my! That would definitely be embarrassing.

  4. How to put your foot in it.😉 Good recovery, though…

  5. I want to live in Tirza’s dream world, too!

  6. Jana Denardo

Ooo now I want to know why the sword dancers were put to death

  7. Alexa Milne

What did the sword dancers do I wonder.

  8. I know Health and Safety regulations can be a bit of a killjoy, but executing people seems a little extreme! 😉

  9. Right, now I need to know what are sword dancers, why were they suppressed, who did they threaten, and when Tirza says ‘spend the night’ does she mean ‘spend the night *nudge nudge wink wink’ or just ‘spend the night’?

  10. Oh sword dancers sound very intriguing

  11. Lots of interesting worldbuilding and character building here.

  12. Oh my, first she accuses him of being a sword dancer, something that could endanger him, and now she asks to sleep with him. Trouble!

  13. Really interesting. I want to know more!
