Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, bloggers, and readers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!). Continuing from Disturbed Magic (until or unless a better title comes along) and picking up with the aftermath from last week’s post, in which a group of half a dozen guards from a merchant caravan were harassing a woman in an alley and somewhat recklessly challenged Kel to make them stop. Kel is now trying to assure the woman that she is in no danger.
“You – You’re not just a warrior,” she said, staring at the bodies.
Kel shrugged. “A very well trained warrior, then.”
She pulled her gaze away from the bodies to study her rescuer. Kel was young and slender, with a graceful, almost delicate, build; long blond hair was pulled back in a tight warrior’s braid, and a simple blue leather band encircled his head. Loose fitting dark blue trousers were tucked into black boots, and the dark blue leather tabard worn over a lighter blue shirt was devoid of any insignia, marking the warrior as a Free Blade, a sword for hire. For a moment she was almost afraid again, but the gentle warmth in Kel’s voice and the humor and compassion in his blue eyes won out.
“I’m Tirza.”
Hmmm. I have a question, but it might be spoilery, so I won’t ask, just wait with bated breath until the answer is revealed. :)
Nice. So we know who Kel is, but we don’t. I can sympathise Tirza her wariness. And she didn’t have the benefit of seeing into Kel’s mind like we did
Sword for hire, hmmmmm makes me wonder if she’s thinking of hiring him
Be wary, Tirza…;)
I’m enjoying this–can’t wait for the next bit!
Maybe I’m reading this wrong. Is Kel a man or a woman? It’s seems both pronouns are being used…
Where? (I’m not seeing it, but maybe I’m just tired.)
Thanks! Corrected the errors.
So he’s a sword for hire. That explains a few things. I wonder if she’ll hire him.
Intriguing. I like how her wariness gradually subsides.
I find Kel very interesting
Nice description! I like Kel and I wonder what is the secret hiding deep under all the blue :)
Mm. I have such a weakness for blue-eyed boys. (And this scene. Man, I am hooked on this.)
