Continuing with Onyx Sun. Last week I left off with Taliya getting the news that her mother had cosigned her loan application to buy a starship, an act which would give her a hold over Taliya.
Her father frowned as the implications sank in. “So, what are you going to do?”
“I’m going to cash in my un-trust fund and buy it myself and then I’m going to go shove the loan papers…” She stopped as he started to laugh. “What?”
“I love you, kid, but you’re not thinking clearly.”
“Sign the papers, then use the money that I saved for you to pay it off. She won’t know where it came from, your money from your grandmother will be safe, and I’ll get the pleasure of vicariously sticking it to her along with you.”
“I don’t want to take your money.”
“Stubborn,” he muttered. “You definitely take after my side. All right, how about this – sign the papers and I’ll cosign a different loan for you.”
“No, because as soon as I’m off planet you’ll pay it off.”
He chuckled and hugged her. “I do love you, kiddo. But there’s a fine line between maintaining your pride and independence and being a damned fool. Don’t cross it.”
