Sunday Snippet January 4, 2015

This is an excerpt of a work in progress that doesn’t have a real title yet. (The Word doc is called “T&A” for Ta’elsin and Arrek, the main characters, but I gave it a working title of Betrayal for NaNoWriMo and Wattpad purposes.)  This is a very rough first draft and may or may not have been creatively edited to fit the 10 sentence limit.

This excerpt picks up from last week’s post, and I’m posting the last bit of that entry because it’s sort of needed as a segue here since I’m doing a bit of editing as I post.)

(I know. Bad Paula. Write first: edit later.)

“No, it wasn’t all bad,” Ta’elsin agreed softly, but it wasn’t Sagyl’s face that he saw, but a pair of warm brown eyes, a hand holding his own, wrapping a blanket around him. He closed his eyes, holding to the memory of the blanket.

This week’s snippet:

The blanket that he had wrapped around himself in the early hours of morning, the blanket that had finally permitted him to sleep.  He had held onto it all these years, clinging to the security that it represented.  Other than clothing, it was the only personal item that he had taken from Sagyl’s tower, the only thing he had kept.

Suddenly, irrationally, he wondered if it would be possible to find the boy – a man now – who had shown him kindness and gentleness and who had risked his own life to get him to safety.   He shook his head.  All he had to go on was a pair of warm brown eyes, gentle hands, and light brown hair.  And acolyte robes.  He shuddered at the thought that his rescuer could be one of the group that had tormented him.  He shook the thought away – there was no way that he would ever have been able to hurt someone they way they did:  all Ta’elsin could do was hope that his unknown friend had managed to find safety as well.

(The prologue is available on Wattpad if you’d like some background information.)
