Catching Up

So, here it is: the last blog post of 2014.  (Well, except for the first ever Wednesday Words post coming up on the last day of 2014, which I’m kind of excited about, even though I haven’t actually finalized the prompt yet.)

I’m looking forward to 2015, and my 1K-a-Day writing challenge. With luck I’ll finish a novel or two or three.  (In the “Unrealistic Expectations” department, I find myself fantasizing about finishing ten novels and editing eight. You can stop laughing now — I said I knew it was unrealistic.)

And when I finally make my way out from under the mountain of current WiPs (which, if I continue the 1K-a-Day challenge might take me a couple years — or three or four) I hope that I remember that staying focused on one project at a time is far more productive than having a bunch of half-finished novels sitting around in their underwear nagging me to make them a sandwich and get them a milkshake.

But who am I kidding?  I’m not even certain that I can finish one year without starting something totally new and unrelated to my current projects.

In fact, I can pretty much guarantee that something else will show up and demand to be written: for every one of my works in progress I have at least another half dozen plot bunny sleeper cells lurking in my brain, just waiting for my muse to signal them to attack. (Attacks usually come when I am working on an outline for NaNoWriMo, and since I do that three times a year…)

*sigh* I’m never going to get caught up.

It’s sort of like those nights at work where it seems like the more I do the further behind I get:  sometimes I think I just need to stop until I catch up to myself.
