Sunday Excerpt — October 12, 2014

More from Sanguine, a science fiction novel with elements of semi-paranormal M/M romance.

I’m back.  Work was killing me last week (six days straight with dementia patients – I was ready for the loony bin!  Plus, one left for a personal care home and two others ceased to breathe, so I just was pretty wrung out.)

Anyhow… picking up from where I left off two weeks ago.   (There may or may not be some creative punctuation involved.)

 “No!  I forbid you – “

Kaen looked up, but Gregor had joined Constin and the two of them were pushing Gavril away, blocking him, and Kaen turned his attention back to Mirela.  “Do it,” he said softly, his gaze locked with hers.

She pressed the edge of the blade into her wrist and as blood welled from the cut she raised it to Kaen. “I offer freely that which you need.  Drink deeply of my life, my lord.”

“No!”

Kaen looked up, snarling, his mouth inches from Mirela’s wrist, from the blood that called to him, but Gavril’s attempt to interfere was still blocked by Gregor and Constin and he turned his attention back to Mirela.  He wrapped his lips around the cut as he had done many times that night, but it was as he drew her blood into his mouth that he fully felt the power of the Blood Pledge:  for the first time truly understanding the implications of what he was to them – and what they were to him.
