Sunday Excerpt — January 5, 2014

More from Sanguine, a science fiction novel (still in progress) with elements of semi-paranormal M/M romance.

(Sanguine is out to my beta readers now, but still being refined and revised, so this is still a work in progress and the following lines may or may not have been hacked and recombined and creatively punctuated to fit into 10 sentences.)

If you want to pick up from the beginning, I started weekly excerpts from this in October.

Picking up from last week, Gregor has returned from answering the call of nature.  While he was out of the room, Kaen has laid out a uniform for him.

“I have something for you,” Kaen said, slipping an arm around Gregor to support him.

Gregor stared at the uniforms.  “Master… Captain… I…”

“If I had any doubts,” Kaen said softly, his lips brushing Gregor’s hair, “your resistance to my attempt to Compel you dispelled them.”

“But I…”

“As I pointed out once before, who else knows this ship as well as you do, First Officer Vladescu?”

Gregor looked up at his captain, noting the soft smile that played around his lips. “The ship?  Or the ship’s captain?”

“Or the ship’s captain,” Kaen agreed. “You are strong enough to stand up to me, to resist me.  That is… rare.”

“What if I don’t want to resist you?” Gregor murmured, and Kaen laughed.

“That,” he said, kissing him, “is an entirely different issue.”

    Very sensual moment.

  7. Nice! Working and playing together…no chance for anything to go wrong there. 😉
I’d be a terrible beta reader for this story–I’d be too busy rooting for these guys to notice any flaws!

  8. I totally enjoyed the overall tone of the snippet, the business and the emotion – excellent excerpt!

  9. Love how you betray the intimate moment. Great 8.

  10. You shared more of their character in an interesting way. Very nice blend of fact and emotion. Well done.

Agreed. Not being able to and wanting to are two different things. I like that they’re still feeling each other out so to speak. 🙂
    The Murders of Polly Frisch

  12. This is really sweet. I like how Gregor is so unsure of himself but Kaen has confidence for the two of them.
