Sunday Excerpt — December 1, 2013

More from Sanguine, a science fiction novel (still in progress) with elements of semi-paranormal M/M romance.

(This is still a work in progress and the following lines have been hacked and recombined and creatively punctuated to fit into 10 sentences.)

Picking up from last week, Kaen fed from Gregor and nearly killed him by taking too much.

Kaen pulled the man against his chest, holding him, and Gregor nestled against him contentedly.  “Sleep,” Kaen said softly, lowering his head until his lips brushed Gregor’s.

He felt Gregor reaching for the kiss and he smiled. “Rest now,” he said, settling him back onto the bed. “I have some things to attend to, then I will be back:  if you wake before I return, just lie still and wait for me.”

“Yes…”  Gregor’s voice trailed off into sleep and Kaen smiled, tucking the blankets around him.

He watched him sleep for a moment, cursing himself for a fool:  it had been centuries since he had had a willing Blood Slave and he had nearly lost him in the first feeding – he had forgotten how sweet and powerful blood was when it was freely given.

Stepping out into the space station he realized that he had also forgotten how much sharper his senses could be, and he smiled:  it had been so long since he had felt his full powers — powers that could only come from the blood of a willing donor.

“Ah, Gregor,” he murmured, “you have given me more than you know.”

His eyes closed for a moment remembering the taste of Gregor’s blood:  there was something about it – something familiar and comforting and somehow… more… than any other blood he had ever tasted, and he was already craving more.
